Position Overview

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Edmond Public Schools Foundation serves as the strategic and operational leader of the organization. The CEO works in collaboration with the board of directors, Edmond Public Schools, and community stakeholders to achieve the mission of the foundation. This dynamic leader is responsible for overseeing strategic vision, operations, fundraising, programs, and community engagement, ensuring EPSF delivers meaningful impact for students and educators.
The CEO reports directly to the board of directors.
Essential Functions of the Job

Strategic Leadership & Mission Achievement 20%

• Work with the board to develop and implement a multi-year strategic plan aligned with the mission and goals of EPSF.
• Identify and develop strategic partnerships with organizations that complement the foundation’s mission and amplify its impact.
• Mentor and develop staff and board members to ensure leadership continuity and organizational growth.
• Maintain a strong working relationship with Edmond Public Schools to ensure alignment with district needs.
• Monitor trends in nonprofit management to guide innovative practices.

Board Development 15%

• Collaborate with the board to recruit, train, and maintain an engaged, diverse, and effective board of directors.
• Support board committees, including Finance, Development, and Governance.
• Identify and recommend policy changes to the board of directors to enhance governance, organizational effectiveness, and alignment with best practices.
• Ensure the board is fully informed about the organization’s operations, programs, and financial health.

Fundraising & Financial Management 15%

• Collaborate with Edmond Public Schools Superintendent to identify community support to impact Edmond Public Schools students
• Lead fundraising staff to ensure financial sustainability, including major gifts, grants, annual campaigns, and planned giving.
• Partner with the community to grow endowed funds.
• Develop and manage the annual budget in collaboration with the board’s Finance Committee.
• Work closely with the accountant to prepare and provide accurate financial data and information for regular financial reports, ensuring transparency and compliance with all financial policies.

Operational Management 20%

• Provide oversight of all operational aspects of the foundation, including staff management, policy compliance, and program implementation.
• Oversee human resources functions, including recruitment, development, and performance management.
• Oversee the administration of employee payroll and benefits, ensuring accurate and timely payroll processing, compliance with relevant tax and labor laws, and effective management of employee benefits programs, including health insurance, retirement plans, and other offerings. Collaborate with external vendors or service providers as necessary to maintain efficient and competitive payroll and benefits systems.
• Leverage technology to streamline operations, enhance donor engagement, and measure program impact effectively.
• Prepare for and manage organizational risks, including crisis response and contingency planning to safeguard the foundation’s operations.
• Ensure compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, and nonprofit governance standards.
• Experience overseeing contracts, ensuring they align with organizational goals, legal requirements, and financial sustainability.

Program Development & Evaluation 10%

• Collaborate with Edmond Public Schools to identify and prioritize programs that align with district needs.
• Oversee program staff and department, ensuring effective management, alignment with organizational goals, and optimal performance.
• Oversee the evaluation and impact measurement of programs, ensuring alignment with strategic goals.
• Adjust program offerings as necessary to maximize community and student impact.

Community Engagement & Advocacy 20%

• Serve as the public face of EPSF, building relationships with key stakeholders, donors, volunteers, and community partners.
• Advocate for public education by engaging with civic leaders, business organizations, community members, and parent groups.
• Review and approve the foundation’s marketing, communications, and public relations strategies to ensure alignment with organizational goals and enhance visibility and support.
• Interface with media outlets to promote the foundation’s mission, programs, and achievements, ensuring consistent and positive messaging
• Ensure the foundation’s public image remains positive and accurate, including maintaining updated and accurate profiles on external databases such as Guidestar, Charity Navigator, and other nonprofit rating platforms.
• Monitor and manage the organization's reputation through consistent branding, messaging, and communication strategies.

Experience

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in nonprofit management, public administration, education, or a related field.
• Minimum of 10 years of supervisory or leadership experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Master's degree in business administration, non-profit management, or related field.
• Proven success in nonprofit management, fundraising, and strategic planning.
• Knowledge of nonprofit governance, financial management, and program evaluation.
• Demonstrated ability to build relationships with diverse stakeholders, including educators, donors, and community leaders.
• Experience working with public schools or educational foundations.
• Expertise in fundraising, including major gifts, planned giving, scholarships, and grants.
• Experience with tax credits.

As a timeless saying reminds us, "plant trees under whose shade you shall never sit," this sentiment encapsulates our work at EPSF.

As I prepare to transition from my role as CEO of the Edmond Public Schools Foundation (EPSF), I am filled with appreciation and pride. The past six years have been a remarkable journey, one in which we have planted many seeds that will grow and flourish long into the future. Together, we’ve created a lasting legacy that will continue to support and uplift students, teachers, and the community for generations to come.

Among my proudest achievements is the transition to the Classroom Support Program through DonorsChoose. The implementation of this program ensures long-term sustainability of delivering materials to classrooms. Teachers and principals have shared heartfelt stories of how this program has transformed their classrooms, bringing resources and opportunities that were once out of reach. Hearing teachers and principals say it has changed the culture of their school is a reminder of the enduring impact we've made.

The Student Ambassador Program was established to help build future advocates, leaders, and philanthropists. Watching these young leaders develop their own projects that impact the district has been a highlight of my tenure. One afternoon, as a group of ambassadors sat in my office discussing endowments and legacy giving, their curiosity and drive were contagious. This conversation led to them raising the funds to endow the Teacher of the Year Award! They learned that their contributions today could shape the future for those who follow—planting trees for generations to come.

On a personal note, the establishment of the Support Employee of the Year Award holds a special place in my heart. When the superintendent approached me with the idea, I was immediately reminded of my mother, who was once honored as a support employee of the year in the district where she worked for decades. Creating this award and subsequently endowing it with the help of the DeSpain family, was a deeply personal project. It’s one of the many awards established by community donors that will honor those who tirelessly support our schools forever!

As I pass the baton on June 30, 2025, I do so with immense pride in all we've accomplished together. The Foundation's growth demonstrates a commitment to future generations of Edmond Public Schools students. We've built a strong, sustainable future for EPSF, and I am confident that with your continued support, the Foundation will reach even greater heights.

Thank you to Anita, the anchor of EPSF; the staff who went above and beyond; the board members who selflessly gave their time and talent; the donors who believed in supporting public education; the volunteers who showed up willingly; and the community partners who have been an integral part of EPSF’s success. To the students, teachers, and families of Edmond Public Schools—your stories, passion, and dreams have inspired my work every day.

Though I am stepping down as CEO, my commitment to EPSF and its mission remains steadfast. I look forward to the continued growth and success of EPSF, with the community’s ongoing support for its future leadership and initiatives benefiting Edmond Public Schools students.

Over the past six years, Deanna Boston has led the Edmond Public Schools Foundation (EPSF) to heights greater than we could have ever imagined. She has served our community, Foundation staff, our board, and our district with strength, collaboration, and character after spending her career as a local and national nonprofit leader  

On June 30, 2025, Deanna will transition from her role as CEO of the Edmond Public Schools Foundation to pursue her commitment to advancing the nonprofit sector. We wish her all the best and will be forever grateful for her service, commitment, and contributions to our legacy.

Together, Deanna and the Board have positioned EPSF to serve Edmond Public Schools students for the future. We remain focused on three core priorities:

• Strengthening organizational operations to support growth and maximize impact.
• Developing and implementing a strategic vision that creates meaningful benefits for students.
• Honoring the founders’ vision by cultivating a culture of legacy giving and ensuring long-term sustainability.

The Foundation’s impact under Deanna’s  leadership can be seen and felt across the district. We have strengthened our commitment to students, teachers, and families across Edmond Public Schools by::

• Establishing the Student Ambassador Program that empowers students to become engaged leaders, advocates, and philanthropists for education and their community.
• Implementing the Classroom Support Program through DonorsChoose has significantly enhanced resources for Edmond Public Schools classrooms, with support increasing from $521,138 over five years to $1,733,608. Additionally, the number of classroom projects has risen from an estimated 120 to 2,492 since the transition from traditional classroom grants five years ago.
• Securing vital support for districtwide mental health initiatives to enhance the well-being of every student and every school across the district.
• Working with individuals and families to create 7 new endowed awards and scholarships, ensuring long-term sustainability and expanded opportunities for students over the next 40 years and beyond.
• Increasing EPSF’s assets by 50% despite the challenges of a global pandemic, showcasing resilience and strategic commitment.
• Securing community support for the first cohort of the Early College Program, providing the opportunity for under-served students to engage in a pathway to college or the workforce upon high school graduation.
• Strengthening the organization’s operations by working with the Board to establish key policies and procedures, fostering community trust, and ensuring a solid foundation for the future.

Deanna remains deeply committed to ensuring a smooth transition over the next several months and will work closely with the Board and our dedicated team to position EPSF for continued growth and success. We have begun the process to  identify the right leader to build on this momentum and take the Foundation to new heights.

National School Counseling Week highlights the tremendous impact school counselors can have in helping students achieve school success.
This week recognizes school counselors who implement comprehensive school counseling programs, a vital part of the educational process for all students as they meet the challenges of the 21st century.

The Edmond Public Schools Lucile Johnson Peters Math Teacher of the Year Award is given each year to the math teacher that exemplifies excellence in teaching the principles of math in Edmond Public Schools.

A fund has been established at the Edmond Public Schools Foundation to memorialize Lucile Johnson Peters’ love of education and her excellence in teaching math by recognizing an outstanding Edmond math teacher each year.
The award amount is $1,000.

Applications are due at midnight on January 15, 2024.

This past week, one of our student ambassadors from Santa Fe High School, Jaley Hunt,  had the opportunity to share with state school board members and superintendents the importance of community philanthropy to support school districts and how students can be a driver behind long-term sustainability for their districts.  We even ran into some Edmond Public Schools board members at the conference!

"This past year, the Edmond Public Schools Foundation Student Ambassadors came together to help endow the Teacher of the Year award as a focus in our philanthropy projects.

Two years ago, I was a volunteer at  the event in which we present the Teacher of the Year award. I had the opportunity to be on the stage to help present gifts, and, when it came time to announce the new Teacher of the Year, the room was silent in anticipation. Finally, it was announced that Emily Boyett was our district's new Teacher of the Year, and, immediately, Ms. Boyett broke down in tears of joy and hugged those around her. It was evident to everyone what this award meant to her and how meaningful this recognition was.

When I think about that moment, there is no question in my mind as to why so many of us would readily volunteer to give our time and reach out to our sphere of influence to help endow this award. We have seen the first-hand impact of what this award can do, and we see its importance. Awards like this allow us to show appreciation for our educators. Speaking for all Student Ambassadors, this was time well spent, and we look forward to seeing the positive impact this endowment will have for years to come."

Edmond Trail Blazer, Dr. Nancy N. Robertson Wotring

    Nancy Neal Robertson Wotring, Ed.D, was born on December 19, 1934, in Ponca City, Oklahoma. She died peacefully with her family at her bedside in Sugar Land, Texas on March 28, 2023, at the age of 88. Nancy Wotring is survived by her husband of 65 years, Earnest Howard Wotring, Jr., Ph.D, a former minister of The First Methodist Church of Edmond, OK. Dr. Wotring and her husband moved to Edmond in 1965.
     Dr. Nancy Wotring was the Principal of Ida Freeman Elementary School in Edmond for 15 years, from 1983 to 1998. At the time she became principal of Ida Freeman, she was the first female principal at Ida Freeman. Her career in the Edmond Public Schools began in 1972 as a kindergarten teacher. She taught kindergarten at Clyde Howell Kindergarten until 1977. Subsequently, she worked as an elementary school counselor at Sunset,  Will Rogers and Russell Dougherty Elementary Schools until 1983.    
    Dr. Wotring is survived by her four children who attended Edmond Public Schools and graduated from Edmond Memorial High School: Cynthia N. Wotring Ulrich, M.Ed., and her husband Steve Ulrich of Edmond, Oklahoma; Deborah M. Wotring, Attorney at Law of Houston, Texas; Melissa M. Wotring-Norman, M.D., and her husband Bryan Norman, Ph.D., of Lubbock, Texas; and Earnest W. Wotring, Attorney at Law and his wife Ju Wotring of Houston, Texas. Dr. Wotring’s surviving 9 grandchildren include Aaron F. Meek, Attorney at Law and his wife, PJ Meek, Noah E. Meek, Attorney at Law and his wife, Heather Meek, RN, Michelle W. Landis, D.P.T., Alexander E. Norman, M.S.I.E., Laura N. Landis, M.D., Jacob F. Norman, MSBME, Elliott B. Norman(Medical Student), Samantha K. Wotring, and Nicole C. Wotring. Her five great grandchildren include Anne Meek, Gus Meek, Thomas Meek, Ophelia Meek, and Lucia Meek.  She is also survived by her sister, Ann McPhail and her husband, Clark McPhail and brother, Frank Robertson and  his wife Jill Robertson along with many cousins, nieces and nephews.
     Dr. Wotring’s memorial service will be in Edmond on June 24, 2023, 10:00 A.M. at First United Methodist Church Edmond, OK.  Burial service will be at 11:30 A.M. at Memorial Park Cemetery, Edmond, OK.  
     Donations in her honor can be made to Edmond Public Schools Foundation through the Nancy Robertson Wotring, Ed.D., Ida Freeman Elementary School Library Book Endowment Fund (link) or mailing to EPS Foundation P.O. Box 30837 Edmond, OK 73003.
   The funds will be used to endow the Ida Freeman Elementary School’s Library each year in perpetuity.  Dr. Wotring loved reading to and with her family and students.  In this way we will remember her foresight and dedication to education.

When the Student Ambassadors found out at their January meeting that the Teacher of the Year award still needed $5,000 to be endowed, they decided to make it their goal to raise that amount this year to ensure teachers in Edmond can be celebrated in perpetuity!

The Oklahoma Equal Opportunity Education Scholarship Act allows supporters of public education to receive an up to 50-75% tax credit for their contributions to Edmond Public Schools Foundation.

Funds will be used to provide innovative educational opportunities for Edmond Public Schools students. Our organization can honor a total of $200,000 in tax credits this year according to the following criteria:

One-year donations are eligible for a tax credit of up to 50%.
Two-year commitments each year are eligible for a tax credit of up to 75%.

Important Tax Credit Information:  The tax credit has a statewide cap of $25,000,000 and a district cap of $200,000 annually. If total credits claimed exceeds either cap, the credit to the taxpayer will be a proportionate share of the cap for the taxable year after allocation of any amount of credits not claimed by other eligible organizations and taxpayers under the Act. Credits earned, but not allowed due to the application of the statewide cap, will be considered suspended and authorized to be used in the next immediate tax year and applied to the next year’s statewide cap.  Any credits authorized by the Act allowed but not used in any tax year may be carried over, in order, to each of the three (3) years following the year of qualification.  The Oklahoma Tax Commission will publish the percentage of the contribution made in the previous year that may be claimed as a credit by contributors by February 15 each year.

The City of Edmond – including both the Edmond Police Department and Edmond Fire Department – the Edmond Public Schools Foundation, civic organizations, regional churches, and support groups are teaming to provide not only a fun-filled event for school-aged children but also provide access to vital resources and services for the underserved and underinsured members of our community.

More than 40 agencies will be on hand to provide information, resources, and activities for Edmond Families. Free immunizations for children, a free hot dog lunch provided by the Edmond Police Department, free snow cones donated by Bahama Bucks, popcorn, princess characters, and bags of non-perishable food, will all be available while supplies last.

Edmond Public Schools Foundation will be there sharing information about Early Birds and mental health resources. Edmond Public Schools will be there to share about employment opportunities at Edmond Public Schools!

Big News!

We are excited to announce that Citizens Bank of Edmond has committed as the 2021-2022 Presenting Corporate Partner!

Their commitment to public education in Edmond includes a $30,000 sponsorship to help the Edmond Public Schools Foundation meet the needs of students, teachers and schools in the Edmond Public Schools district.

"Look for the helpers" - Fred Rogers

We found some amazing ones today!

Thank you to Dr. Krista Jones and Rev. Dr. Craig Stinson who have donated $25,500 to support two Edmond Public Schools programs through the Edmond Public Schools Foundation.  

In memory of Rebb Sterling Jones, they have donated $18,000 for social emotional learning (SEL) and mental health, which reaches grades Pre-K through 12th.

In honor of Mitzi Hancuff, $7,500 was donated for the Art in Schools program provided to all 3rd and 4th grade elementary schools in partnership with Edmond Fine Arts Institute.

The EPS Foundation board has a goal to raise $1.25 million for SEL/mental health and $280,000 for the Art in Schools program over the next five years.

Thank you also to the Edmond Chamber of Commerce for hosting Dancing with the Stars and inspiring this generous gift!

We have moved a large portion of this event to the beautiful outdoors a The Springs venue to allow for social distancing.  Attire is dressy casual (think outdoor wedding or come from work in business attire).  A portion of the event will be indoors.

Food will include heavy passed hors d'oeuvres from 6:00 PM - 7:00 PM with dessert inside during the inductee presentation.  

Dress is dressy casual.  Think outdoor wedding or come from work business attire.  The evening may be chilly, so plan accordingly for the outdoor portion of the evening.  

Air filtration is being provided indoors and masks will be available.  Food will be served outdoors on the lawn. We will provide any updates as needed to meet CDC and other reccommended guidelines.
